The Picos de Europa mountains are the third highest mountain range in Spain and form part of the Cordillera Cantabrica - the line of mountains that spans the whole northern coast. A National Park, this area is home to wolves, bears, eagles, vulchers and many other unusual animals. It is an amazing place for mountain trekking and walking, climbing, pot-holing and caving. Lush green valleys with small villages, dramatic gorges, rocky peaks and emerald lakes are part of this verdant paradise. The Cabrales valley, situated on the edge of the National Park, is a thriving cheese making area and sheep and cows with their tinkling bells are a common sight.
